The Channing Club
Channing Club was founded about 20 years ago by a Building Your
Own Theology class that wanted to continue meeting after the class
ended. It was named after William Ellery Channing, an early Unitarian
theologian.
Channing has many similarities with the more recently instituted Small
Group Ministries. Members meet regularly to talk about values and their
application to life and to explore their own spiritual development. Mutual respect, support for differing viewpoints, and confidentiality are
the keystones.
Channing is also different from Small Group Ministries: We meet
only once a month (on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM). We share facilitation of the group. Each month a different member of
the group is the facilitator, who picks a topic and leads the group.
The facilitator generally picks a topic that is significant in his/her own
current life or particularly interesting to him/her.
