Director of Religious Education Interviews Begin

April 27, 2008

The DRE Search Committee (Deb Best, Katie Beltramo, Madison Brown and Scott Horgen) has begun preliminary phone interviews with two external candidates for the full-time Director of Religious Education position. We’ve also recently received one more external application and one internal application, so we’ll be reviewing and responding to them shortly.

Our target is to complete the interview and selection process this spring, so that our newest staff member will begin in July in order to gear up for a busy fall. To that end, we’ve advertised via the LREDA (the Liberal Religious Educators Association) Web site and e-mails throughout the St. Lawrence District, as well as less UU-centric places such as americasjobexchange.com and Craig’s List.

We urge everyone to take a look at the information that we’ve prepared for prospective candidates, because it encapsulates our vision of the opportunity that a new, full-time DRE represents for FUSS. This vision was created with feedback from so many of you in surveys, focus groups with the Rev. Pat Hoertdoerfer, and in casual conversations. Just go to www.fussonline.org and click on the “Latest Bulletins: Seeking DRE” link. We’re very grateful to Don Porter for assembling this “virtual packet” and for updating the RE sections of the Web site with current curricula and photographs—take a look while around while you’re there. If you’re never on the computer, hard copies of the basic documents are posted on the RE Bulletin Board. While you’re reviewing all of this, if you find yourself inspired to apply, please do! We won’t know that you want the job unless you tell us by applying for it.

If you have questions or concerns about the DRE search process, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the committee members. (Katie Beltramo)
