May 18 Collection for City Strings

The Special Collection in the service on May 18 will benefit the City Strings, an outreach program of the Empire State Youth orchestra which provides private lessons and instruments for poor but talented middle school children at Central Park and Mont Pleasant Middle Schools in Schenectady and a similar number of students in inner city Albany middle schools.

These kids maintain a good academic performance and learn skills which will help them to integrate into society. This enrichment is a very important part of their lives.

The City Strings has a matching grant from the Schenectady Foundation. Come to the Social Action table to learn more. Please support them generously! Checks should be made to: ESYO City Strings Project. (Paula Shaw)

March To Fort Drum Continues To Grow!

Jeremy Scahill, author of "Blackwater," in a recent presentation given at LeMoyne College for the Berrigan Lecture Series, called on the audience to show strong support for the members of the armed forces who have, with great courage, publicly opposed the occupation of Iraq.

The IVAW - Iraq Vets Against the War - stands up against the occupation in a difficult context: the US Army.

Beginning on May 8 and ending at a festival just outside Fort Drum on May 17, New Yorkers are walking and marching to the base to support the soldiers who oppose the occupation.

Three feeder marches, from Rochester, Ithaca, and Utica, will go through many small towns - walking with IVAW members and holding nightly meetings about the Winter Soldier campaign and the need to end the occupation.

Sign up for the march on the Web site (www.nysmarchesforpeace.org).  Walk a day, an hour, the entire route. Join in the festival on May 17!
