Our Partner Church in Marosvásárhely, Transylvania

During 2003, FUSS established a partner church relationship with the Unitarian Church of Marosvásárhely, Transylvania. A Partner Church Committee was formed, led by FUSS member Don Kerr. Through correspondence with the senior minister in Marosvásárhely, Rev. Nagy Laszlo, our minister Rev. Russ Savage learned that the Marosvásárhely congregation is well along in the process of building a second church building. They are now crowding a 1930 church building with far more people than it can accommodate. So FUSS undertook a fundraising effort within our congregation to help with the construction. A delegation from FUSS visited our new friends in Marosvásárhely in late October 2003.

January 2004 update: new windows are installed -- photos graciously provided to Don Kerr by Csongvay Attila.

2006 update: the new church is now in use -- see photos of services there in April and September of 2006, along with photos of church members and Rev. Kecskes Csaba and his family.

2007 update: these photos show the continuing progress of the beautiful new church building. Rev. Kecskes Csaba sent the photos along with a very lovely banner recognizing our loving partnership.

The traditional emblem found in all Transylvanian Unitarian churches is a dove on a mountain top encircled by a serpent, with a crown on top. The symbolic meaning comes from the bible: in Matthew 10:16, Jesus says to his disciples: "Behold I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
