Grade 7 Our Whole Lives Carol Conyers, Gary Feinland Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a year-long, comprehensive, age-appropriate sexual education program. OWL fosters the development of sexual health and ethical values as it nurtures the worth and dignity of all participants. It fosters equitable, healthy relationships through values-clarification activities, teaching communication and decision-making skills. Children are encouraged to value themselves and act on their values throughout their whole lives. Youth Groups The Junior Youth Group (Grades 8 and 9) Neighboring Faiths and Coming of Age Lisa Christenson and Sue Mosher (fall) Sue Mosher and Donald Whisenhunt (spring) Neighboring Faiths introduces our youth to the faith traditions and practices of other religious groups in our community. The youth read about and discuss other faith traditions and practices and then visit local religious services of these traditions. Additionally, we offer a special “Rite of Passage” to our youth. This coming of age program helps Unitarian Universalist youth acquire information about their faith—its beliefs, history, structure, and programs; to help UU youth achieve meaningful experience in living their own faith; and to provide a structure for youth to define. This program culminates in a special service on May 4th that the youth plan and lead. |
